Spruce trees, clouds and a valley sunset from above Paro, Bhutan
  • 10 years ago
Jomolhari - The mountain (ri) of the Goddess (lha) Jomo, can be seen from Jele-la (la or pass) that connects Paro and Ha in Bhutan. It is also spelled as Cheli la, Jele la or Chele la.

The 35 km drive to Chele / Cheli la pass makes for a great road journey from Paro, and is an excellent starting point for day walks. Chele la separates Haa and Paro valleys and at 3810 m, it is one of the highest motorable passes in Bhutan. The drive till here from either Paro or Haa is through dense spruce and larch forests and a variety of floral displays can be seen, depending on the seasons. In summer, one can see fields of irises abloom, Blur Poppies in the monsoon and Rhododendrons in spring. On a clear day, there are fantastic views of Mt. Jumolhari / Jomolhari, Jichu Drake and adjoining peaks to the North-west, as well as the views of Haa and Paro valley.
