Israeli air strike on U.N.-run school kills at least 10

Death lies at the doors of this U.N.-run school.

Panicked Palestinians do what they can to help their injured neighbors.

An Israeli air strike killed at least 10 people here, and wounded 30 others.

The Israeli military has been battling militants in the town of Rafah -- striking the entrance of the school Palestinians were using as a shelter, without warning.

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) MAN WOUNDED IN ISRAELI STRIKE ON UN-RUN SCHOOL, TAREK SAID, SAYING:

"I was standing lighting a cigarette outside the school, the next thing I knew I was laying on the ground, with a back and neck injury."

The wounded are rushed to an overcrowded hospital, some receiving treatment without a proper bed.

This, as Israeli troops pull away from the Gaza border. A Lieutenant-Colonel says the troops are being redeployed.
