Pakistanis celebrate Eid amid heightened security

Security was tight as the faithful crowded mosques for Eid prayers.

Karachi is on alert, amid fears of a possible attack by Taliban militants -- angered by the on-going military offensive in their North Waziristan stronghold.

But here, worshippers celebrating the end of Ramadan, seemed unconcerned.

(SOUNDBITE) (Urdu) KARACHI SHOP OWNER, MOHAMMAD SADIQ, SAYING:

"The security arrangements were really very impressive. Thank Allah, we offered our prayers without any fear or security concerns. "

With roads blocked in the surrounding area, familes and children felt free to celebrate.

Overall, for worshippers in an often turbulent city, it was a day of peace.
