WEB USERS CALL FOR PEACE IN GAZA
Web users the world over are campaigning for peace in Gaza. This initiative involves holding a sign reading "Jews, Muslims, Palestinians, Israelis, I love you", taking a photo and sharing the selfie online. It was started last week by Saadia, a young Muslim woman living in Singapore and her friend Ariel, who lives in Tel Aviv. It is proving extremely popular on Facebook, drawing growing support. 
And it is just one of many online movements for peace in Gaza. The past few days have seen the emergence of a number of new online initiatives calling for an end to the fighting between Hamas and the Israel Defense Forces. “Hummus Initiative” for example is encouraging social networkers to pose with pots of hummus, something enjoyed by both Israelis and Palestinians, by Jews and Muslims alike: the idea being to highlight the commonalities between the two peoples at war, instead of focussing on their differences.
And the Israeli arm of Amnesty International is also using photos to call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Dozens of shots have been shared on the NGO’s Facebook page, with people from across the globe holding their palm up to the camera reading the word “stop”. The objective is to denounce the current conflict and also call for greater protection for Palestinian and Israeli civilians caught up in the fighting and rocket fire.
