Taliban kill minibus passengers

The bodies of at least 14 people shot dead when Taliban gunmen stopped their minibuses in central Afghanistan are moved from the scene.

A three-year-old child was among the victims.

Survivors said the gunmen divided the passengers into two groups before they were shot.

(SOUNDBITE)(Dari) SHOOTING SURVIVOR, GUL AGHA, SAYING:

"We were inside the bus when suddenly it was stopped by a group of armed men. They took us out of the bus and looked at our identity cards. Then they separated us into two groups and opened fire. Some of us survived but 14 were killed."

Local officials said most of the passengers were from the ethnic minority Hazara Shi'ites although that couldn't be independently verified.

The austere Sunni Taliban regard Shi'ites as infidels who deserve to die.
