TransAsia Airways plane crashes in typhoon-hit Taiwan, killing 48

Rescue workers scrambled across the mangled wreckage and rubble from a collapsed roof of a nearby building.
The plane was trying to land during a thunder storm when it crashed near the runway on this Taiwanese island, Penghu.
There were 58 people on board. Most of them died, including two French nationals.
No one on the ground was hurt.
The plane had taken off from Taiwan's southern city of Kaohsiung headed for Makong airport when it crashlanded.
Many relatives and friends were waiting at the airport when they heard the news.
(SOUNDBITE) (Mandarin) DAUGHTER OF 60-YEAR-OLD PILOT LI YI-LIANG, MS. LI, SAYING:
"The weather was so bad. The typhoon loomed over the whole of Taiwan. When the air current is so unstable, the plane shouldn't take off."
But civil aviation authorities disagreed, saying the weather was suitable for flyin
