The mystery surrounding two wedding rings attached to balloons in Alabama appears to have been solved. In early July, a family in Winfield found the rings, still secured to the balloons near their yard.

When media outlets picked up on the story, everyone was curious about who let the balloons go. Now a woman named Caley Burkett has come forward and claimed responsibility.

On July 5th, Burkett and her fiancée Stiles Blevins decided to tie the wedding rings from previous marriages and attach them to two balloons. The couple then let them soar up to the sky as they watched from their own yard.

The pair explained they only wanted to let go of the past. They didn’t want money for the rings, but instead hoped to use them in a symbolic gesture to show they were both ready to move forward with one another.

They never expected to see the rings again, but fate had other things in store. When fifteen-year-old Brenton Weeks found them in a field 75 miles away from the couple’s home, he was shocked.

Burkett took to a local news media’s Facebook page to shut down the rumors as the story spread and admitted the rings belonged to her and Stiles.

She doesn’t want the rings back. Winfield Police are still holding onto them in case she changes her mind.
