Victims of plane disaster mourned around the world

Carrying candles and flowers, mourners arrived at the Malaysian embassy in Washington, DC to honour the victims of the Malaysian plane disaster in Ukraine.

Flowers, even a stuffed toy animal, were also part of the tribute.

The United Nations said 80 of the passengers on board were children.

Meanwhile, a group of people gathered in Kuala Lumpur for a small candlelight vigil.

Candles arranged on the floor of a church in the centre of the Malaysian capital spelt out the flight number, MH17, as people quietly prayed for 298 people who died in the crash.

At Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, where the doomed flight departed from, travellers, visitors and staff laid down flowers to pay tribute to passengers who perished.

A book of condolence has been set up outside the departure terminal.
