After going missing for seven weeks, a beagle from Fort Collins, Colorado is in recovery at a nearby animal hospital.

TJ the beagle was a research animal that was reportedly kept in a cage for the first few years of his life, and then slowly introduced to normal activities for a scientific study to see how he would react.

The dog was then put up for adoption at the Larimer Humane Society, where his current owner, Dave Snyder, acquired him.

TJ ran away from his dog sitter‘s house back in May, and has been on the loose.

The owner of the dog reportedly put up fliers, and received calls from people who had seen TJ.

But because TJ is skittish, he would run away from anyone that tried to pick him up, even his owner who found him and unsuccessfully tried to catch him in LaPorte, Colorado.

After a harrowing journey that involved being struck by a car, the beagle was picked up by Boulder Animal Control.

They contacted the owner using information from the dog’s implanted microchip.
