Iron Dome wards off Israeli casualties
As night fell on Friday, rockets from Gaza continued to be intercepted by the Israel Defence Force’s (IDF) Iron Dome anti-missile system.

Partially funded by the US, the aerial defence apparatus has played a large part in preventing Israeli fatalities during the strikes.

The IDF is purportedly firing precision-guided missiles at Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.

In addition, Israeli Lieutenant-General Benny Gantz indicated his forces were ready to send in tanks and other ground troops.

If they go ahead, it will be the first land invasion since some 1,400 Palestinians and 13 Israelis were killed in a three-week war between 2008 and 09.

It is the deadliest offensive on the border with Gaza since 2012.
