U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Secretary of Treasury Jacob Lew toured the Great Wall in Beijing on Tuesday (July 8).

The two are visiting Beijing to attend the annual U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue, a gathering launched six years ago to help the world's two largest economies manage an increasingly complex relationship. The meeting will kick off on Wednesday (July 9).

Kerry and Lew were accompanied to the Wall by U.S. ambassador to China Max Baucus, along with an entourage of media and security.

Security personnel sealed off a section of the Badaling Great Wall in the outskirts of Beijing just before Kerry and Lew arrived.

Lew and Kerry, waving and smiling to cameras, spent about 20 minutes touring a small section of the Wall.

China and the United States have close trade and business ties and work together on important international issues like North Korea.

But they also have deep differences
