Large anti-government rally held in Kenya's capital Nairobi

In Kenya, hundreds of protesters have taken part in an anti-government rally in the capital Nairobi.

Reuters news agency reported security forces firing tear gas to disperse the demonstration.

The protest against President Uhuru Kenyatta followed a call by opposition leader Raila Odinga for a mass rally to fall on the historic date known as Saba Saba, or Seven Seven in Swahili.

The day marks the moment when demonstrators rallied for democratic elections in Kenya in the 1990s.

The political protest follows the death of at least 22 people, killed in two separate attacks along Kenya’s coast on Sunday.

The Islamist al-Shabab group from Somalia linked to al-Qaida has reportedly said it was behind the attacks.
