Over 100 trapped after building collapses in Chennai, India

More than 100 people are believed to be trapped under rubble after a 12-storey building collapsed in Chennai, southern India.

The building, under construction, toppled in heavy rain.

Nine people were killed initially and authorities say 132 labourers remain under the debris.

Search and rescue teams have plucked 26 people from the rubble.

The emergency services say they must clear away tonnes of concrete before searching further.

Access to the construction site is also hampering the work.

Police have launched an investIgation.

Yesterday in Delhi 10 people died when a four-storey building collapsed.

Poor construction procedures, corruption and little care for health and safety are cited as the reasons why so many structures collapse across India.
