As a general rule, funerals are somber events. But not for a family in New Orleans that opted to say goodbye to a loved one in an unconventional way. Miriam Burbank was propped in a chair behind a round table. The family surrounded the body with her favorite things in life. A menthol cigarette was placed in between her fingers while a can of Busch beer along with a wine glass rested next to Burbank.

Other items next to her included a pack of smokes, an ash tray, lighter and a book of crossword puzzles. Those are the types of things she would enjoy being surrounded with at social gatherings and parties.

According to Burbank’s two daughters, their mom was ‘full of life’ and they wanted the funeral to celebrate and reflect her personality.

This isn’t the first unusual goodbye. Last month, an 80-year-old Puerto Rican woman, who died of natural causes, was positioned in her favorite rocking chair at her wake in San Juan.
