Libraries are wonderful places, putting access to the world and its history at people’s fingertips. In one recent case, however, patrons were being offered something quite unexpected.

Police recently arrested a 20-year-old New Hampshire woman who was selling sexual acts at the Tewksbury Public Library.

Authorities had been tipped off that it was happening and sent in an undercover officer to investigate the situation.

He walked in, found a seat in front of a computer, and proceeded to blend in with the other patrons.

Before long he was approached by Brittany Macintyre who quickly handed him a pen and a paper.

Possibly out of respect for the institution’s preference for silence, the two proceeded to negotiate the exchange of money for sexual acts via note writing.

Shortly after she requested a 60-dollar fee for an unspecified service, Macintyre was taken into custody.

She’s been charged with sexual conduct for a fee and also booked for an outstanding warrant involving drug possession.

This is the second time the Tewskbury Library has been at the center of a scandal of this sort.

Last summer a homeless man was arrested for offering sex in the library’s bathroom on Craigslist.
