This weekend Homestead -- Miami Speedway hosted round 3 of Formula Drift for the first time. The weather was hot, and the drifting was second to none

Omnicoverage landed on Tuesday night and bumped into Andy Hateley of Hateley Motorsport and Ross Fairfield from www.omgdrift.com and accompanied them to the track on the Wednesday whilst they unloaded the car and prepared for open practice on the Thursday. We soon saw that the quality of build on this 'tame' FD spec car was meticulous and awe inspiring. This orange LS3 powered E30 BMW was the result of a 4 year project that Andy has poured countless hours into, the car was built one piece at a time making sure every inch was perfect before moving onto the next task learning along the way.... We would lke to extend our thanks to these guys and the team for being so welcoming on our visit

Thursday saw practice and the Pro2 qualifying, a few stand out performers from Pro2 and as expected the long anticipated big guns, this was our first FD and our eyes were opened to the savage sounds and sights it had to offer, the set-ups of the teams trucks and bases for the weekend, the quality of the builds and the atmosphere of such a massive event was a real eye opener.

Friday brought on the top 16 for the Pro2′s and Qualifying for the Pro's. Hateley came up against an on form Hamilton, and the judges decided to go one more time as both drivers made a small equal mistake on each run, when they ran again Hamilton pulled a great lead run and was enough to take him through to the top 8, Hamilton progressed to the final and Met Stoneback who was on fire all weekend, also qualifying for the Top 32 for the big day on Saturday. The final was epic and Stoneback was able to pile on the pressure and proved too strong for Hamilton.

Saturday was another scorching day, we arrived to find a massive queue at the gates and the sound of engines getting ready for a short practice prior to the top 32 starting. Two usual suspects not seen in the top 32 were Saito and Yoshihara which was a real shame.

The show kicked began and right from the off there was rubber and carbon fibre exchanged on track, it seems the Americans are just as crazy on track as some of the driving in Ireland and the UK we have become accustomed to. Stand out drivers for me were Gettin JR, Aasbo, Field, Moen and Stoneback.

There were a few one more times called through the top 16 but it eventually came down to just 2 drivers, Forsberg and Gettin JR, Gettin was able to pull a decent lead in his run and keep it planted to the side of Forsberg on his chase run which saw him the winner for the second round running, a massive well done to him and his super impressive team and set up -- this car has to be seen in the flesh to be fully appreciated.

We at Omnicoverage would like to thank everyone at www.formulad.com for the opportunity on track and we hope to return for the final round.
