According to a man from West Virginia, a GPS unit caused him to drive straight into the Susquehanna River in Bradford County, Pennsylvania..

The accident occurred around 11pm on Wednesday May 21st. It was then that 24-year-old Jacob W. Ash had been cruising down a state route. His GPS was directing the way.

The road he was on ended at a nearby river, but as it was late at night and dark out, Ash got absorbed into the GPS instructions and ended up driving straight into the water.

The fire chief for the Good Will Fire Company said the device told Ash he could cross the river by staying on the same route. There is reportedly a sign up alerting drivers that the road ends, but Ash didn’t see it.

He was able to climb out of the car after it hit the water and swam to the other side of the river. But was left stranded overnight before crews from the local fire/boat rescue team arrived to assist after local residents heard his screams for help

At the time of the crash, the water temperature was estimated to have been about 40 degrees. Ash was taken to a local hospital to be treated for hypothermia-like symptoms.
