A glimpse into the future as billionaire technology entrepreneur Elon Musk unveils a sleek new spaceship in California
His company, Space Exploration Technologies -- or SpaceX -- has designed the seven-seater Dragon V2.
Musk says this version will be able to take-off and land just about anywhere.
It could also help break Russia's current monopoly on transporting astronauts, since the U.S. ended its space shuttle program three years ago.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) ELON MUSK ON COST SAVINGS OF DRAGON V2, SAYING:
"It is not really the fact that Russia is taunting the U.S. for a lack of manned access to space. But, they are also massively overcharging and I think that has even gone above 70 million dollars for a seat that the Russians are charging. The quote that we are providing NASA would allow the the seat per astronaut to be less than 20 million dollars and that assumes a low flight rate. So, in a high flight rate it could get to single digit rate."
