AKB48 assault: Japanese girl group attacked by male fan with saw

AKB48 members Rina Kawaei and Anna Iriyama were attacked by a crazed fan wielding a saw during a meet and greet event in the northern city of Takizawa in Japan on Sunday.
The incident in question occurred when a male fan suddenly produced a saw and attempted to assault two AKB48 members. A staffer was also injured as he tried to grab the weapon.
Rina Kawaei and Anna Iriyama received cuts on their arms and heads. They were rushed to hospital, but are in stable condition.
The 24-year-old suspect, identified as Satoru Umeta, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and he has reportedly admitted to the crime.
Police are investigating the motive behind the assault.
