Pope invites Israeli, Palestinian presidents to "an intense prayer" at Vatican

Pope Frances arrives in Tel Aviv.

He crouches as he steps out of a helicopter, to be greeted by Israeli President Shimon Peres and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

He's here to reinvite the Israeli and Palestinian Presidents to pray for peace at the Vatican.

(SOUNDBITE) (Italian) POPE FRANCIS, SAYING:

"I would like to invite you Mr. President, and President Mahmoud Abbas, to take part with me in an intense prayer session invoking God to bestow the gift of peace."

(SOUNDBITE) (English) ISRAELI PRESIDENT, SHIMON PERES, SAYING:

"There arrived in the State of Israel, members of different religions and nationalities live together. Israel is a Jewish and democratic state where we live in coexistence within our borders (PART GRAB OVERLAID WITH SHOT 5) and continue to search for peace beyond them. We shall not allow anybody to violate this commitment."
