Moscow court finds five guilty of Politkovskaya murder

Five men have been convicted of the 2006 murder of Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya.

One man was found guilty of the shooting and the other four of organising it.

Back in 2009 due to a public outcry Russia’s supreme court overturned the original acquittal of three of the men which then ordered their retrial.

An outspoken Kremlin critic, Politkovskaya was gunned down in the lobby of her Moscow home .

Tuesday’s convictions are being seen as a victory for Russian prosecutors and the state, but rights activists and Politkovskaya’s relatives say that justice will not be done until those who ordered her contract-style killing are convicted.
