STORY: Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Istanbul on Saturday to demonstrate against Turkey's worst industrial disaster in the mining town of Soma that killed 301 people.

Riot police used water cannon to quell the crowd and detained several protesters.

Tuesday's disaster has triggered angry protests across the country, aimed at mine owners accused of ignoring safety profit and at Prime minister Tayyip Erdogan's government, seen as too close to industry bosses and insensitive in its reaction to the tragedy.
