High school prom draft: Secret NFL draft selection at California's Corona del Mar High

Asking a date to the high school prom is a fraught endeavor at the best of times, but one California high school found a way to level the playing field using a tip from America's most popular sport. For the last few years, students at Corona del Mar High in LA have held a secret NFL style draft to determine who takes who to the prom. Participation was purely voluntary.
See, students at Corona Del Mar, like any high school, are naturally stratified along a spectrum from hot and popular, to uggo and lumpy. Ordinarily, the hot and popular kids pair off right away, leaving uggo and lumpy to take each other to prom. But in an NFL style draft, the lowest ranked boy gets first pick, upsetting the traditional social strata.
Girls of course have the right of first refusal, meaning nobody goes to prom with somebody they really don't like. Somehow, Corona Del Mar High principal, Kathy Scott caught wind of the draft, and preemptively nuked it. She emailed parents saying she'd hate to have to cancel prom because of the negative actions of a few kids.
So now the poor Juniors and Seniors of Corona Del Mar will have to revert to the old, primitive way of picking prom dates. One group that's happy the draft is over is Feminists United club from neighboring Estancia High school, who called the draft "Insulting."
No word yet on who's inviting them to prom.
