Tensions rise in Aab Bareek amid fears of fresh floods in Afghanistan

Tonnes of supplies have been rushed to the Aab Bareek village where more than 4,000 have been displaced since a fatal landslide last Friday.
Police had to restore order as villagers desperate to get their hands on emergency rations fought with aid workers. They are getting desperate.
“From that incident a fight broke out and then shooting from police and different parties. Our staff are all safe,” explained Matthew Graydon from the International Organisation for Migration.
Hundreds of bodies remain buried in up to 50 metres of mud raising concerns among families searching for relatives. More flooding is forecast for the area which could hamper their search.
“Fifteen members of my family were martyred, they are all under the mud. We want the bodies to be recovered. If there is more flooding we don’t know where the bodies will be moved to by the flood water,” said Haji Akram.
Tensions have heightened. Villagers have complained that supplies have not arrived quickly enough to help their plight while people from neighbouring poor villages have walked to the refugee centre in a bid to get food and other supplies.
