Slovenia: PM resigns

The prime minister of Slovenia has formally resigned. Alenka Bratusek lost the leadership of her party ten days ago after a vote among members.

Economists said the former Yugoslav republic was unlikely to need outside financial help for now.

“Slovenia is back on track,” said Stqnovnik. “There are now encouraging signs of stabilisation of economic activity as Slovenia’s economy expanded by 2.1 percent year on year in the fourth quarter of 2013,” she added.

Bratusek was sworn in as prime minister just 13 months ago. Her government will continue for now in a caretaker capacity.

An early election is expected to be held by the summer.

The small eurozone member avoided a bailout last year by pumping more than three billion euros of state funds into its troubled banks.
