Clifford starts eight year jail term

British celebrity agent Max Clifford arrives at court in London to learn his fate after a jury convicted him of sex offences dating back to the seventies and eighties.

He was found guilty of indecent assault against four girls aged 14 to 19.

He later left court in a prison van to begin an eight-year jail term.

Police praised his victims for speaking out.

(SOUNDBITE)(English) DETECTIVE CHIEF INSPECTOR MICHAEL ORCHARD SAYING:

"I would like to again thank all of the victims for their bravery in coming forward. Without their support we would not have secured successful convictions and I commend them for their courage, strength and confidence in us that they would be listened to."

Clifford, whose clients have included Simon Cowell and boxer Muhammad Ali, is expected to serve half his sentence behind bars.
