Popeye: Rush For Spinach review. Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of Popeye: Rush For Spinach for the Game Boy Advance developed by Magic Pockets and published by Namco.

Popeye’s unlucky video game legacy continues in Popeye: Rush For Spinach. It’s a runner from a time before runners were popular, but in a stroke of perfectly Popeye luck, it’s as flawed as it was ahead of its time. Players choose between four characters—Popeye, Olive Oyl, Wimpy and Bluto—in what essentially amounts to a platformer-meets-racing game. The first player to clear all the obstacles and reach the end of the level wins. It’s a simple concept, and it works well for a game based on a cartoon. Unfortunately, its tight viewpoint and lackluster level design are perhaps the biggest obstacles in the game. The game’s presentation is fantastic, however, as it boasts gorgeous sprites and animations. It’s a beautiful game to look at, even if you can’t always see where you’re going. Popeye: Rush For Spinach offers several single-player modes, as well as a multiplayer mode for link play.
