A well meaning 13-year-old boy in Manchester, UK was turned away by KFC staff because they were concerned about his age.

Jake Butterworth had only wanted to purchase food for himself and 8-year-old brother, Wade. When Jake walked up to the counter to place his order, the staffers told him they couldn’t serve him because he is under 18 and made it known they feared he would throw food and make a mess.

After the unexpected exchange, Jake commented ‘I was in shock. I only wanted a Mega Box but they wouldn't let me. There were kids when I went in not eating anything and refusing to move.’

Jake’s dad, Mike had asked his boys to pick up dinner as he was getting home from work late on that night. He was very angry when he heard how his kids were treated at the restaurant.

KFC has since apologized to the family and cited ‘anti-social behaviour relating to unaccompanied young people’ as the decision to stop serving adolescents. The restaurant has offered Jake’s family a free meal to make up for their displeasure.
