Three Americans killed in Kabul hospital attack

Three Americans were killed on Thursday, and another injured, when a security guard opened fire at a hospital funded by a U.S. Christian charity.

It's the latest in a spate of attacks on foreign civilians in Afghanistan.

(SOUNDBITE) (Dari) MOHAMMAD ZARIF, SHOPKEEPER NEARBY HOSPITAL SAYING:

"I heard gunfire and then I was told that three foreigners were shot dead."

Afghanistan's Health Minister Suriya Dalil:

(SOUNDBITE) (Dari) AFGHAN HEATH MINISTER SURIYA DALIL SAYING:

"In today's incident one of our children specialists who has worked for more than seven years in this hospital was killed and two other American citizens who came to meet this specialty doctor, a father and son, were killed."

The shooter, who was captured, was a policeman employed as a security guard at the Cure Hospital, which specialises in children's and maternal health.

The health minister says the father and son were killed as they were leaving the hospital.
