Melinda Herman: Mom at center of gun control debate after shooting home intruder

Melinda Herman, a Loganville, Georgia mother who shot intruder Paul Slater in self-defense, has unwittingly found herself in the middle of America's gun control debate. This incident occurred in Atlanta last Friday when Melinda Herman saw a man breaking into her house.

UPDATE: In a March court appearance, 32-year-old Slater admitted he broke into Donnie and Melinda Herman's Loganville home. But Slater denies he broke through a locked bedroom, then bathroom door, to get to Melinda Herman and her 9-year-old twins hiding in the attic.

Melinda Herman emptied her gun, firing 6 times and hitting Slater five times.
