Gibbons Life presents WSSF BIG AIR HIGHLIGHTS 2014 - Ski

The Gibbons Life Big Air final stunned the whistler crowds with a splendid showcase of skills on Saturday night. With a lineup full of Olympians, X Games medalists and recent internet sensations, it was always going to be a great show.
As opposed to the X Games, where diffculty seemed to favour true style, this year's riders were pulling off some of most difficult tricks in the book, whilst retaining huge style the whole way. A true feat to master.
The view from the jump at the base of the village never shows you how fast and threatening the rider's experience before they hit the air is. They can't see where they are going to land when they take off and have to use their years of skill, experience and air aware to time the pop of their trick, the speed and direction of their rotation and trust that it will work, allowing them to hold on to grabs for longer than most humans.
One can only imagine the rush of going upside down twice and spinning 4 times, then to be greeted by a roaring crowd at the base of Whistler.
There has been skepticism recently as to whether this festival is as good as it used to be. Everyone who was there knows this was better than the festivals of old. The sport of freeskiing and the musical talent falling head over heels to play here was a testament to that. The village was a bustling hive of families, groups and couple of all ages and the mountain community of neighboring resorts who have now closed for the winter. Skiing was a mixture of spring and powder for those willing to go for a quick stroll.
Basically it was fun, so next year, you should come.
