Violence reignites in Caracas as protesters, police face off

STORY: Student demonstrators faced off with riot police in Caracas on Thursday as protests rage on in Venezuela to oust socialist President Nicolas Maduro.
The latest clashes took place in the Caracas opposition barrio of Chacao, with police using tear gas to disperse demonstrators. Paramedics were on hand to treat citizens caught up in the scuffles.
According to official reports, 41 people have been killed and about 650 people have been injured since anti-government protests broke out in early February. Some 2,000 people have been detained, of them more than 170 are still behind bars.
Venezuelans across the political spectrum have expressed serious grievances with violent crime and economic problems including an annual inflation rate that is pushing 60 percent and shortages of basic products from milk and flour to toilet-paper and car batteries.
