U.S. Airways Flight 1720 with 149 people on board and five crew members had its nose gear collapse during take off at the Philadelphia International Airport on Thursday evening.

The incident forced the pilot of the flight bound to Florida to make an emergency landing as the plane was taking off.

The plane crashed onto the tarmac and passengers evacuated the aircraft at around 6:30 p.m. local time using emergency slides.

"The plane went up, came back down a little bit the first time, then didn't think much of it," one of the passengers was quoted as saying by CBS News. "[It] went up the second time, and then kind of felt loose and went straight back into the ground," he said.

Two minor injuries were reported but no one was seriously hurt in the accident.

Passengers were relocated to another terminal, Reuters reported.

Operations at the airport were halted and the runaway where the incident occurred closed. Other three runaways that were closed immediately after the crash were later re-opened.

U.S. Airways is owned by American Airlines Group Inc.
