Kenya is home to a unique retreat. Located in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy near the Masai Mara National Reserve, is Richard Branson's safari camp, Mahali Mzuri. There are a dozen tent-like structures on the property which serve as lodges for guests.

All the buildings were specifically designed to be lightweight. The entire development was created with the environment in mind, to minimize the impact on it as much as possible.

The sustainability approach was taken one step further by the building procedure which limited the construction materials to those that had been regionally sourced. Even the employment process is meant to help the community. Jobs are only offered to those who live locally.

Now that the site is complete; it’s safe to say the carefully thought out procedures that led to the completion are a success. The grounds are stunning.

The 12 suites are basically perched on a ridge, offering visitors elevated views of the surroundings and wildlife. Wooden furniture pieces, basket woven lights and bamboo trimmings encompass the interiors, adding hints of both beauty and modesty.

In an effort to promote low density tourism, the resort only allows 24 guests on the property at one time. For entertainment, visitors can take part in tours to local villages, take a dip in the resort’s pool or receive a spa treatment, not to mention the twice daily game drives.
