Police in China have arrested a man in his 20s who allegedly strangled his girlfriend to death after she refused to marry him.

The incident took place in China's Shaanxi Province, where the man, surnamed Zhang, killed his girlfriend in his apartment on December 20.

Police found that Zhang had spent a considerable of money preparing for a wedding, but his girlfriend wanted to end the relationship. Angry that he had been spurned, the man strangled her to death after a brief argument.

The woman's body was discovered three days after Zhang's brother informed the police. It is believed that Zhang didn't leave the scene after murder but stayed with his girlfriend's body day and night until his brother came.
