An Egyptian farmer has now been sentenced for choosing the wrong name for his donkey. The name that landed him in serious trouble is Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who is Egypt’s former Military Chief General.

The trouble started last year when the farmer put an army hat on his donkey and called the animal by the General's name. He then rode the donkey through his home village and reportedly acted in a manner that was considered "directly insulting" towards the army.

Although Sisi recently resigned from his role as military chief because he’s decided to run as a candidate in the upcoming presidential election, the charges against the farmer were still intact.

After spending 6 months in prison for the donkey stunt, he landed in court and was found guilty of ‘humiliating the military’. He may now have to spend another year behind bars.

Lawyers are hoping and truly believe the sentence and decision will be overturned in the Court of Appeals. However, political opponents are in an uproar over the initial ruling.

One activist commented ‘The heavy-handed crackdown on any opponent voices will not end the game for one side but will rather ignite the political situation further and keep the economy down,’
