In case you’ve heard that Wayne Knight, aka the Seinfeld character called Newman, tragically passed away, take comfort in knowing the rumor is bogus.

The claims pertaining to his quote unquote death first started circulating on social media. The report that started all the trouble alleged he died in a car wreck near the New York–Pennsylvania border.

It didn’t take long for the hoax to spread. Hours after the exaggerated news surfaced, Wayne Knight was listed as the top trending topic in Google searches.

Once Knight got wind of the rumor, he shut them down on his Twitter account. There he commented ‘Some of you will be glad to hear this, others strangely disappointed … but I am alive and well!’

In another Tweet, he remarked ‘Does someone have to DIE to trend? Geez! Thanks for all the love everybody. I didn’t know you cared. Glad to be breathing!’

While it’s not clear how Knight’s name came up, the fatal car accident mentioned in the death hoax was actually legitimate. Tragically a 26-year-old woman was killed in the crash, after losing control of her vehicle and crossing into the path of a semi truck.
