Venezuela: Foreign Minister brands John Kerry a 'murderer'

There have been fresh street clashes in the Venezuelan capital Caracas between riot police and anti-government activists.

Angry confrontations have become a regular occurrence since a protest movement began a month ago, denouncing issues like corruption and shortages of basic products.

The government in Venezuela accuses Washington of stirring the country’s worst political troubles in a decade.

On Friday, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elias Jaua lambasted his US counterpart John Kerry as “a murderer”.

But, as the latest victims of the violence were laid to rest, US officials say Venezuela is using them as a scapegoat, inventing accusations to distract from internal economic and political problems.

At least 28 people have died during the unrest against President Nicolas Maduro’s socialist government. More than 300 others have been injured.
