A bus driver was brutally beaten by a passenger after he refused to get off the bus in Olympia, Washington in an incident that was caught on security video.

Kiel Duggins, 24, was asked by the Intercity Transit bus driver to watch his language. When Duggins continued to use vulgar words, the bus driver stopped the bus and told him to get off. Duggins refused to leave as driver walked to the back of the bus threatening to call police.

The driver is heard saying, "You want me to call the cops? Do you want me to call the police?." "I don't care, I heard your language four times and you said the 'F' word." Duggins threatened the driver: "You hit me in the face and we're going to fight to the death."

The driver then tried to push Duggins out the side exit door. Duggins pushed back and began punching the driver. Another passenger grabbed Duggins and tried calming him down but was unsuccessful. Duggins continued to pummel the driver and at one point is heard saying, "Is that real blood? Let me taste it."

Duggins' comments toward the end of the beating have sparked debate over whether or not this was a hate crime. Some words are difficult to hear but the comments sparking debate are, "If you hang around these negroes ____. Your blood is ____ on the ____. F--- you! F--- you! Your kingdom will fall. You will pay. Your blood is ____."

Duggins struck the driver nearly 30 times before exiting the bus on his own accord. Passengers and the driver called 911. Duggins was later arrested at a downtown transit center. Police were able to identify him from the security video.

The driver, who has worked for Intercity Transit for seven years, was released from the hospital with scrapes, bruises and a fractured nose.

Duggins was charged with second-degree assault and is being held at Olympia City Jail. His bail was set at $20,000. Duggins told the court he has not been current with his medication routine for mental health issues.
