Figure Skater Yuzuru Hanyu the savior of Sino-Japanese relations
  • 10 years ago
While Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's Yasukuni Shrine visit has sent Sino-Japanese relations into a tailspin, one man has appeared as a savior to rebuild bridges between the two nations. Yuzuru Hanyu, Japan's first ever gold medalist in figure skating, is here to save the day.

Yuzuru shattered his own world best with a score of 103.10 in a spectacular short programme at the Sochi Olympics. Yuzuru's passion for Winnie the Pooh is well known. Wherever he goes you see him clutching his teddy bear.

Yuzuru, who Chinese fans think is drop-dead gorgeous, has become a popular topic of conversation on the Internet. He makes my heart leap as soon as I think of him, say fans of gay-love comics in China.

They think Evgeni Plushenko, the king of figure skating, and Yuzuru look good together, hoping they can be a couple. Some have even referred to Yuzuru as a god, adoring him like a real exist deity. Rumour has it that a photo book is coming soon. A book that would no doubt sell like hot cakes in China.

"My heart never stops missing a beat when watching Yuzuru. What should I do?" " I loved Yuzuru from the first moment I clapped eyes on him." These are the kind of comments that litter Chinese websites. Guaranteed this rising star will be receiving much more publicity in the future.
