A 20-year-old college student was recently found deceased in his dorm room at the University of Chicago. The body of Nicholas Barnes was discovered on a Saturday by police after fellow students reported a foul smell coming from his room.

Barnes had been lying face down on the floor. His body had significantly decomposed.

Authorities suspect he had been dead for at least several days prior to when he was found. February 7th was reportedly the last time Barnes used his key card, which was one week before he was pronounced dead.

Officials have ruled out foul play and do no think it was suicide. An autopsy was performed on Sunday and "the results were inconclusive."

The vice president for campus life and student services, Karen Warren Coleman said that Barnes was an ‘an excellent student, admired by faculty and peers alike’.

Friends of Barnes described him as a quiet, brilliant and friendly man. His family is planning a funeral for him in Pittsburgh, which is where he spent his childhood. The school is also working to schedule a memorial for him on campus.
