Libyan parliament agrees to 'early' election in divided country

There were scenes of jubilation in Tripoli’s Martyrs Square on Monday as Libyans marked the third anniversary of the revolution that brought down long-time dictator Moammar Gadhafi.

The streets have been decked with Libya’s revolutionary flag.

Not everybody is celebrating, though. Many people in the OPEC oil-producing nation are angry over political chaos and a lack of progress towards democracy over the last three years.

In an apparent effort to appease people, the president announced on Monday that Libya’s parliament will call elections “as early as possible.”
