After a lot of struggling, they opened the doors of their restaurant, Fortune Cookie.
There, Americans living in Shanghai can enjoy familiar, comforting versions of China’s traditional cuisine.
Items that one won’t find on other menus in the city are in lavish supply at the eatery.
General Tso’s chicken or beef, sweet and sour pork, and crab Rangoon are staples.
As an added bonus, they have, as their name would imply, fortune cookies and items taken out of the restaurant are packed in what American’s consider to be traditional Chinese take-out containers.
Yes, neither of those items are typically found in China.
Chinese patrons haven’t been quite as receptive to the concept as many hailing from the US have been.
Some have questioned the copious amounts of sauce used in the dishes, while others find the dishes to be far too sweet.
Almost all native customers comment that the portions are entirely too big.
