A maintenance worker in Covington, Kentucky had a scary experience when a floating restaurant broke free from its dock recently.
A maintenance worker in Covington, Kentucky had a scary experience when a floating restaurant broke free from its dock recently.
The Waterfront restaurant drifted down the Ohio River. The break also collapsed the ramp to the front door and snapped electric and gas lines.
The business cruised approximately 200 yards before finally coming to a stop near a bridge. The US Coast Guard was called in to assist.
The worker was rescued by a towboat. As soon as the restaurant was stabilized, two tugboats arrived to guard it overnight. Electric power holding company Duke Energy was also called to help, and the restaurant will be towed it to a dry dock in Hebron.
Authorities suspected ice built up between the restaurant and the shore causing the securing cable to snap.
This is not the first time the Waterfront has broken free. A similar incident three years ago has left it closed since then, with the owner hoping to re-open this year.
