A fire station is the one place you would not expect to see a devastating blaze. Nevertheless, that’s exactly where one broke out.

A volunteer fire hall in the village of Mount Albert, Canada was left entirely gutted after the flames spread and destroyed the building. The fire was reported at a little before 8 in the morning on a Sunday.

As the heat intensified, several explosions alerted residents something was horribly wrong. According to one local, the loud blasts were between 5 and 10 minutes apart. They were powerful enough to cause the structure to shake.

By the time volunteer firefighters arrived at the unmanned and empty station, the building was too dangerous to enter, meaning no equipment could be accessed to douse the flames. The crew was forced to wait for other firefighters from nearby stations to assist.

Eventually the fire was successfully tackled. Nobody was injured. A new pumper truck, along with five other official vehicles were however, destroyed in the blaze.

The cause of the blaze is currently being investigated by the Ontario Fire Marshal. The local mayor and fire chief have met with neighboring communities to discuss the handling of future emergencies in Mount Albert.
