Israel kills a suspected Gaza militant in retaliation for a rocket launch during Sharon funeral

Two Palestinians have been killed in an Israeli air strike on Gaza.

One of the men had been blamed for firing rockets across the border during last week’s funeral of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

Both victims had been been sitting in a parked car in the town of Beit Hanoun when they were hit by a missile.

The air strike could complicate efforts by Egypt, which is a frequent mediator between Israel and Gaza, to talk various Palestinian factions into a truce.

In the last month, despite a previous lull there have been some 20 Palestinian rocket or mortar launches.

The Israeli government has vowed to take pre-emptive action against such attacks.
