African Tigerfish Catches Swallow in Flight
  • 10 years ago
Scientists have filmed African tigerfish catching a swallow in flight at the Schroda Dam in South Africa. Although some species of fish are known to feed on stationary birds this is understood to be the first evidence of one catching its prey in flight. Tigerfish are a predatory freshwater species that are best known for their large, razor-sharp teeth. Their ability to leap out of the water to catch prey has long been talked about locally.
