Suspected suicide bomber kills at least 13 Iraqi army recruits

Police say a suicide bomber killed 13 Iraqi recruits and wounded more than 30 others in Baghdad.

According to police, a man with an explosive vest blew himself up as recruits were registering their names at a small Muthanna airfield, now used by the Iraqi army.

This man witnessed the attack:

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) EYEWITNESS, AHMED, SAYING:

" An explosion targeted the volunteers, a suicide wearing explosive belt detonated himself, where should the people go? All these people are looking for their daily living."

The men killed were responding to a government appeal for volunteers to help fight al Qaeda-linked militants in Anbar province.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
