Man charged with arson at Chinese consulate in San Francisco

U.S. prosecutors charged 39-year-old Yan Feng with arson in connection to a fire at the Chinese consulate in San Francisco, on New Year's day.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) FBI SPECIAL AGENT, DAVID JOHNSON, SAYING:

"Last Friday, law enforcement officers arrested Yan Feng, age 39 of Daly City California in connection with the fire at the Chinese Consulate. Feng self-surrendered to officers from the Daly City Police Department, at which time agents from the FBI, Bureau of Diplomatic Security and San Francisco Police Department took him into custody."

"Feng has been charged by complaint for violating 2 separate federal statutes."

Feng told investigators that he targeted the consulate - quote - "because all the voices he had been hearing were in Chinese and the Chinese Consulate had to have been involved," according to an FBI affidavit filed in court.
