THE DEBATE - Unwelcome in Europe? Borders open to Romania, Bulgaria

The citizens of Romania and Bulgaria are now free to come as they please inside the European Union. That includes Britain, where many conservatives are resisting what they fear is an open door to scroungers intent on accessing benefits. In the run-up to next May's European elections, it's not just British conservatives who are tacking right. The German CSU party platform is also bashing Brussels over immigration policy, triggering discomfort inside Angela Merkel's newly-formed grand coalition.
